Roch Voisine is back from Europe where he performed a number of shows in France, Belgium and
Switzerland at the beginning of the year. Mid-april, he was back for an extra performance at the Molson
Center in Montréal and repeated the success obtained from his previous December 1999 show. To keep
things under way, the singer hits the road for the last part of the tour heading for ten towns in Québec and
eastern Canada. In October he will be appointed UNICEF Canada Special Representative.
Back home during summertime, Roch Voisine and Marc Pérusse with a solid team of collaborators, heads for
the recording studio. The singer is preparing an amazing gift for his fans, recording two Christmas albums,
one in french the other in english. To really create the Christmas spirit, Roch and his team decorate the
studio, and put up a Christmas tree.
The result is brilliant and shows the complicity acquired as months went by. Both albums will be released in
early November. L'ALBUM DE NOËL and CHRISTMAS IS CALLING give a new sound to Christmas' classics
with Roch's sensibility and unique voice.
With the release of this new material, he will perform Christmas concerts in more than a dozen cities across
Canada during the month of December 2000. Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, London, Kitchener,
Toronto, Hamilton, Ottawa and Halifax figure on the tour schedule. Roch
Voisine will end his mini-tour in Quebec with a performance at Trois-Rivières and Laval, followed by three performances at théâtre St-Denis of Montréal,
December 21st, 22nd and 23rd.
Meanwhile, he will be starring in a number of Christmas special t.v. presentations to be broadcasted on
TVA, CBC and TF1(France), he will also fly to Paris for a benefice concert at the end of november.
2001
In January Roch travels to Africa for the first time. While in Kenya he experienced his first UNICEF field visit
seeing first-hand how a community in Kibera is coping with the HIV/AIDS pandemic. In April,
he begins recording his 11th album. Assisted by his old accomplice Marc Pérusse, who acts as producer and
arranger. The production is recorded in Montreal.
In October, the song Le Cowboy virtuel, is the first single released from the Eponym album. A few weeks later,
Roch Voisine, the album, is launched in both France and Quebec. A listening session for the media is held at
the studio Le Divan Vert. This new and refreshing album, contains thirteen songs, which reveal an original and
updated sound for the singer-songwriter. A promotional tour begins for Roch Voisine, who is eager to renew with
the public and the stage.
December 2001, Roch joins Jacques Villeneuve on the ski slops to participate ,with a team of artists, at the
Mont-Tremblant’s fundraising event. Together, the artists raise funds for the Mont-Tremblant’s foundation and
other associations. Meanwhile, his song Le Cowboy Virtuel rises at the top of Quebec’s charts.
Also pursuing the promotion of his recent Christmas album, which came out last year, Roch offers many unplugged
performances on radio stations throughout Quebec such as Radio Energie and CKOI FM. These concerts are a huge success!
